LapakMain Corner Provides Safe Space for Children in the Digital Era

Jakarta is stepping up its efforts to ensure children can still learn, play, and grow healthily even as they become more immersed in the digital landscape. A key part of this mission is the newly unveiled "LapakMain Corner" at Tunas Muda RPTRA, Kebayoran Baru.

This commitment is the result of a multi-stakeholder partnership involving Lapakgaming, Bukalapak, Ministry of Communication and Digital, and Jakarta government. Together, they are transforming public spaces into nurturing hubs designed to balance children's growth with the realities of today’s tech-driven era.

Jakarta PPAPP Agency Head, Dwi Oktavia, expressed that protecting children in today’s digital landscape is a shared responsibility. She called for a unified front across all sectors to ensure that public spaces not only protect but also nurture the next generation.

According to her, the LapakMain Corner serves as a crucial intervention at a time when children are becoming inseparable from their devices.

“This corner allows kids to reconnect with their surroundings, ensuring their digital lives don't overshadow their physical reality. We applaud Lapakgaming for strengthening our RPTRAs and helping us build a foundation for healthy digital literacy,” she expressed, Wednesday (8/5).

She asserted that play spaces carry a significance far beyond mere recreation; they are essential venues where children learn, nurture creativity, build character, and hone their social skills.

“Consequently, we hope the LapakMain Corner will serve as a blueprint for future collaborations across other RPTRAs throughout Jakarta,” she explained.

She also cautioned that children face increasingly complex challenges in the digital realm, ranging from cyberbullying and exposure to age-inappropriate content to data privacy risks and excessive screen time.

Therefore, physical public spaces that encourage children to read, play, create, and interact directly are vital components in the broader effort to safeguard the younger generation.

She added that a truly child-friendly city goes beyond bricks and mortar. The core mission is to create a secure ecosystem that sparks creativity and empowers every child to flourish according to their unique talents.

“We are calling on parents to be active mentors in their children’s digital lives—teaching them to use technology responsibly, ethically, and for constructive purposes,” she added.

As for the Jakarta government, this collaboration is a tangible manifestation of its commitment to providing safe, inclusive, and child-friendly public spaces.

“Hope to see more spaces that enable children to grow into a healthy, creative, and empowered generation—one that is ready to face future challenges as Jakarta evolves into a child- and family-friendly global city,” she hoped.

Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM) Head, Bonifasius Wahyu Pudjianto, emphasized during the inauguration that child protection in the digital space is a shared responsibility.

He noted that Government Regulation No. 17/2025 on the Governance of Electronic System Operation for Child Protection (PP TUNAS) serves as a vital foundation for building a safer digital ecosystem. This includes specific regulations on age-appropriate social media account ownership.

However, he stressed that such regulations cannot function effectively without the active involvement of families, schools, the community, and the private sector.

"Digital literacy is not merely about teaching how to use technology; it is about building awareness, character, and the ability to utilize technology wisely, safely, and responsibly. Multi-stakeholder collaborations like the LapakMain Corner are tangible steps toward creating spaces that are safe, educational, and supportive of a child's development," he elaborated.

Notably, the LapakMain Corner provides a variety of amenities, including reading books, educational games, and digital literacy tools designed to help children cultivate healthy and responsible technology habits.

The inauguration ceremony also featured interactive storytelling sessions, parental education on mentoring children in the digital space, the Digital Addiction Response Assistance (DARA) service from the Ministry of Communication and Digital, and free health screenings for mothers and children.
